MOMENT OF DAILY ENCOUNTER
Date: 16th February, 2021
TOPIC: CREATED FOR SERVICE
Scripture:Colossians 3: 23. And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 24. Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
Beloved, I welcome you to another Moment of Daily Encounter! We are still on the theme, vision and purpose! Previously, we gave two reasons for our being on earth today. We intend to give the the third reason.
To what purpose were you created?
- To give God pleasure
- To become like Christ
- To serve God and humanity
Our focus today is the third one, which is created for service! Every man living on earth, is here on purpose and that purpose is service. In other words, your life on earth is on assignment and that assignment is to serve God by serving the body of Christ.
Colossians 3: 23. And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 24. Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ .
Beloved, you were created to serve God:
Ephesians 2: 10. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
You will observe the clause “created unto good works”! The good works speaks of your service. And when we serve man, we are actually serving God. The reason for God helping you mature like Christ is so as to serve like Christ!
You were saved to serve! And it is this service that is called ministry. While you serve in whatever capacity you are ministering.
Beloved, you serve God by serving people. Your service to people in your local church is your primary assignment for life. While your service to your world is secondary and is your mission to your world.
Beloved, your service is your calling. So, don’t wait to be called into full time ministry before serving the Lord. For the Bible says:
2 Timothy 1: 9. Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
Finally, you were commanded to serve. So your service is not optional. It is a command. It is not a service of convenience or when you are less busy, rather it is serving God whether convenient or not:
Matthew 20: 28. Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
What then is the consequence of not serving?
It is lack of fulfillment. You are under utilize the reason for your living. Not fulfilling purpose by service causes frustration and depression! I can testify to this. Sometimes ago, my soul was overburdened and was actually downcast because of the happenings around my life then. When I sat down to ask what was wrong, I discovered the reality of life, that impression without expression equals depression!
Beloved, you were created for service, saved for service, called for service and have received commandment for service. See every opportunity to serve man as opportunity to serve God(Colo.3:23).
What are the consequences of service?
To be continue tomorrow
