So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees, And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
1 Kings 18:42‭-‬43 KJV

Many times, we stop praying before time, the stop our intercession or supplication prematurely, and because we stop praying before the time we should, many of us never see anything happen, no changes.

You need to understand that, when there’s a matter at hand, or a problem you need to fix in prayer, you don’t stop praying until it is fixed. Until there’s the desired change, you should never stop praying, you are to persist, and keep praying until you are convinced that something has happened.

Elijah the Tishbite, a prophet of God, gave the word in the days of Ahab the king, that there would be no rain in the land except by his word. Instructed by God to go show himself to Ahab, Elijah came back after three years to see the king. A lot of things happened when he showed up, and after killing the prophets of Baal, and brought revival to the land, it was now time for rain to fall and Elijah knew he had to pray to make it happen, so “he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,” to do what? To pray and bring rain.

When Elijah began to pray, what he desired was rain; as he prayed, he sent his servant to go out and check if there’s a sign of rain; his servant came back and told him there was nothing, no sign of rain. When he said that, Elijah didn’t get discouraged, he knew it was not yet time to stop praying, so he continued praying and kept sending his servant to observe changes in the weather, but still there was no change until the seventh time that the servant went. The scripture says in verses 43-44, “And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times. And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.”

It was until when the servant of Elijah came and told him that there’s a little cloud, which was a sign that it was about to rain, Elijah never stopped praying. This is what we all need to learn, how to pray and never stop praying until we see the desired change, because, until there’s the desired change, there’s no proof that you have prayed.

Don’t get discouraged when you pray and pray but don’t see anything happen, just get back on your knees and pray until something happens. Know this, what counts is not the time you spent praying, but the changes you effect in prayers, that’s your only proof, so, keep praying.

Prayer
Precious Father, thank you for the privilege of prayer, thank you because whenever we pray, you always answer; I ask Father that you cause your children to be persistent in pray, so that we would always pray until we effect changes on the earth and in the lives of men, changes that favour your righteous cause, in Jesus name. Amen.
